Living By Design Journey

When Tim + Bec Bowring returned to Adelaide after a 10-year stint in London to take over Tim's mother's small homewares shop, he had no idea of what he was on the verge of creating. In just over five years, Living By Design evolved to comprise five renowned destination lifestyle stores in some of South Australia’s most picturesque locations. The online store launched in early 2018 has become hugely popular, now a firm favourite for retail, corporate and hospitality clients right throughout Australia.

2001

The initial store that started it all! Mon Bowring started Balhannah By Design in the Junction Shopping Centre in the town of Balhannah, Adelaide Hills

2012

Mon opened her second store in the coastal town of Port Elliot, South Australia

2014

Tim purchased his Mum’s business, renaming it Living By Design. In the early stages he was living in London, commuting between London and Adelaide, establishing the foundation for the new brand, based on the ethos of creating high-quality, luxurious yet affordable furniture and homewares

Opened the Adelaide Hills flagship store, in a large warehouse style space in Balhannah, Adelaide Hills

March 2015

Opened Living By Design Tanunda in the Barossa Valley

November 2016

Living By Design Victor opened at Victor Harbor on the Fleurieu Peninsula

February 2017

Living By Design Norwood opened on Kensington Road Norwood in Adelaide

Our furniture lines bring together a beautiful range of materials, including pale, natural and cleanly painted timbers, polished concrete, galvanised zinc, granite and stoneware, as well as gorgeous natural textiles such as wicker, leather, linen and wool. An extensive homewares offering includes everything from Danish glassware, copper cookware, hand-woven rugs and throws, a stunning array of designer cushions, to all those little decorative touches that complete your interior. Our large and ever-popular collection of bold and elegant Marimekko homewares ranges from bed sheets and bath towels through to coffee mugs, platters and scatter cushions.
